King Shaka Regiment (formerly Durban Regiment) is a reserve force regiment of the South African National Defence Force. Our band members are all volunteers, who play for the regiment at official occasions for enjoyment.

We meet once a week for band practices at the Winston Churchill Shell Hole in Westville, and our members take part in many parades. tattoos, concerts and pipe band competitions. Over recent years, these events have included the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, the Cowal Highland Gathering in Dunoon, the SANDF Military Tattoo, Concert in the Park in Pietermaritzburg and Durban, Last Night of the Proms at the Durban Playhouse Opera theatre, the 2010 Currie Cup final, Cars in the Park, Music from Scotland, Durban July, and many more.

The Pipe Band continues to promote high standards of piping, and intends to be a part of Durban’s proud

Durban Regiment Pipe Band traces its roots back to 1958, where it was initially formed as the Montclair Pipe Band, under the leadership of Hugh McKenna, Cyril MacRae, Pipe Major Doug Watts and Drum Sergeant Barry Whyte. The band met at the “Tray Bang Shell Hole” in Montclair for practices.
